For many organisations, warehouse automation is seen as an essential must-have for smoother, faster, and more economical warehouse operations.
So many decisions need to be taken by warehouse owners and operators, including comparisons between all the available options, such as whether to use Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) or Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), and how best to justify the substantial up-front costs involved.
When planning warehouse automation, the floor the robotics work on can often be overlooked, to the detriment of your operation’s time and cost efficiency.
See our Robotics All In One Profileograph (which can measure 6 properties of floor flatness for Robotic systems, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), ASRS etc. within a single pass) testing the surface regularity of a warehouse floor for automated systems.
You’ve weighed up the pros and cons and decided that an AMR system will provide the automated requirements necessary for your facilities.
Unlike AGVs, sophisticated AMRs don’t follow a fixed route along wires or magnets embedded in the ground. Instead AMRs work with cameras, laser sensors, and on-board computers to help them understand the environment in which they operate. This means that AMRs can map their own routes, changing directions according to obstacles and time efficiencies.
The floors used by the robots need to comply with specific criteria which is dictated by the manufacturer, and the floors they work on need to be designed and constructed in such a way to allow the AMRs to operate at their optimum performance.
